Describe a sportsman/athlete that you admire

  • What is the person?
  • What he is like in real life.
  • What is his/her achievement
  • Why do you admire him?

As a cricket enthusiast, I know a number of cricket players, not only my countrymen but also players from other nations.

Here, I would like to talk about a sportsman who is an inspiration not only for me but for the millions of people in our country. His name is Yuvraj Singh, and he is a famous all-round cricketer in my country. He plays left-handed baseball. He is just 35 years old, but he is now retired from international cricket. Although he is retired from international cricket, from time to time he plays charity tournaments, and he also runs his own charity organization, YouWeCan, helping to treat cancer patients, which shows the soft side of his personality. He donated 10,00,000 rupees during the COVID-19 pandemic.

When he was playing cricket for India, on his day, he could just destroy the world's best bowling attack. He is the only Indian cricketer to win the Under-19 World Cup, the T20 World Cup, the One-Day International World Cup, and the Champion Trophy. And he is the player of the tournament in all these tournaments. Although his health issue due to cancer was very serious during the 2011 One Day International World Cup, he decided to play knockout matches, where his performance in the semifinal and final matches played an important role in the Indian team's win.

There are three most important reasons why I consider Yuvraj Singh to be my role model. The first one is his dedication to sports. He played in the 2011 one-day international world cup while he suffered from cancer, and his decision to continue playing the matches was very dangerous for his health. Second, his never-give-up attitude. After the World Cup final, he went to the hospital for a checkup, and the doctor said the tumor was in his chest. At that time, many cricket experts said the cancer had finished his career, but he proved all those people wrong. After one and a half years, when he completely recovered from cancer, he came back to the India team with his hard work. At last, his YouCan organization, where he helped other people fight against cancer, underscores his altruistic and compassionate nature.
